Brooksby’s statements after beating Coric at the US Open

This 2022 is being the year of Jenson Brooksby. Although he hasn’t picked up an ATP trophy yet, the American has reached two of his three finals this season, all on hard courts. His strange style sometimes exasperates his rivals. The last to “suffer it” has been Borna Coric. The Croatian, who won just over a week ago in Cincinnati, has said goodbye to the US Open 2022 in Jenson’s hands, also complaining on several occasions about the intensity and frequency of the American’s celebrations. Brooksby explains at a press conference how he has experienced the important moments, the emotions of the match and what has changed for him this year.

Triumph front in Coric

“It was a great battle today, I knew it was going to be like that with a rival like he is. I’m proud of my mental resolve, being able to save a lot of set points and staying present, being able to stay focused and commit to what I’ve been working on. It’s a great feeling.

I was a bit disappointed with the way I played in the second set tiebreak. I told myself I didn’t want my emotions to get in the way of potentially losing a set like that. I had to be relaxed and I did quite well.”

How are you living this season?

“There have been a lot of streaks, some ups and some downs. I feel that I have been traveling much more than any other year and that, together with my coach and my team, we have learned how to handle certain situations. I feel very good, with a lot of confidence and wanting to continue”.

Borna’s complaints

“I’ve noticed. It gives you confidence to try to handle those moments better than your opponents. Only the things I can focus my control on. If I see that my rival is frustrated, I try to break him at that moment. It’s always a good thing to see, whoever it is or in any situation.”
